Re: Annie X Indie

Annie and Indie just had two girls and four boys today, a few minutes ago.  All grizzle and all doing well.  Ellen will keep them at her house for the first couple of weeks and then they will come here.  Thank goodness all is well.  Ellen is happy.  I am happy that I get to see what Indie can produce before he goes to England and if he can pass on that Widge personality.  He, Indie, is smart and athletic, loving and sweet.  Fun.  Another red letter day.

Wag more, bark less

Well, yesterday I noticed that Kat's babies started wagging their tails.  Let me tell you, they are the cutest things in the world wagging their tails.  Sweet, sweet, sweet.  Unfortunately, I can't take a picture of them wagging their tails.  But, your mind can make that tail wag and then you can see those cute little tails wagging.
They continue to be nuzzlers and lick my earlobes.  Tough duty, but someone has to take it on.  I am letting them out of the pen and onto the floor more and more all the time.  They are silly though and then they mostly just snuggle on my lap.
What are they doing as I write this?  Barking at each other, playing that is.

I just got word that Annie had her litter, three girls and three boys, all grizzle.  Now, no more puppies for a long time!  Annie and Indie were bred because I wanted puppies from him before he goes to England to try to become a British champion and make British babies.  I needed to make sure he can make puppies and that those puppies are going to be good.
And, why were the two previous litters bred, you ask?  It was to save their daddy's genes.  Daddy ran into a porcupine last April and it ran a quill into his heart and it tore holes in two of his heart valves, causing him to be in congestive heart failure.  We had to capture his genes and the puppies he has made are beautiful, correct and have great personalities!  Thank goodness we captured some of those genes.
So there!

Teeth it is! But not using them yet....

The teeth have erupted through the gums.  Sweet little teeth that will get me like needles when we play later on.  Now they nuzzle my earlobes and are great at kissing my cheeks.  They are prize winning kids in that department!
More later,
me

All bark and no bite!

The pups are barking and growling a lot now.  When I go to the pen, which is often, they run to the edge and gather 'round my hands.  I pick them up and they nuzzle my earlobes.  I love that.  That's right, no teeth yet, although I can feel them RIGHT THERE under the "skin" of the gums.  Almost!
They had some mush today because they dove into mom's food again.  I took some pictures so that you could see just how messy they are at this stage.  Kat is good at cleaning them up, probably because cleanup tastes sooooo good!
Beeb is the messiest.  He walks in it a couple of times before he settles down to snuffle in it.  I am hoping that the pictures show the real story.
Kate, my granddaughter, was here this weekend and held the babies as much as she could.  Her favorite was Beeb, for some reason.  Kathleen's favorite was the other boy, Ono.  He kissed her the most and she is very partial to the ones that kiss her.  She is SOLD every time one kisses her!
I will put on some pictures of these guys nephew and niece/half brother too.  Bzzz is going to go live in southern California and Sting will stay here.  They are B puppies too!
They were born on a palindrome day, so their baby names, which will be changed most likely, are also palindromes.  The girls are Iki, meaning little in Hawaiian, Pip, and Nikin or Mim.  I am kind of a one syllable person, but it doesn't always work out to be that.

Feb. 11, 2011

Bzzz has learned to touch the target.  He likes the clicker game.  Sting is next to learn that.
They are both doing well at housebreaking.  Hard to housebreak two at once, but they are doing it!  The three adult dogs have the advantage of being able to go out the dog door/tunnel.  It IS easier to housebreak a dog when there is a dog door.
 Bzzz in his lounging mode!
 Bzzz in alert mode!
 Bzzz in play mode!
Bzzz in inquisitive mode!  Below is Sting on the Bosu showing off.  It is actually one of her favorite places to be since it garners treats!
Bzzz may go to southern California and become a show dog down there.  If he doesn't find a show home, he will stay here.  Someone may luck out and get him.  He has a beautiful head and gorgeous movement.  He will do very well in the show ring.
The Kat X BB babies ate their first moosh last night.  They almost went swimming in Kat's food, so I pureed them some kibble with milk.  They loved it and practically took a bath in it!  Kat didn't mind cleaning that up at all!  I will no longer feed Kat in their pen.  They get too wet and I'm not sure that is good for kids who can't yet regulate their body temperature and it IS winter still.  It continues to freeze every night, but I have crocus open both here at home and at work!  Spring is springing!  Aunt Caroline is coming to visit and wants to see some of the glorious flowers here.  Don't know how many there will be in eleven days, but hopefully, a few more than now.
Kate, my granddaughter and her friend will be here tonight to socialize babies to kids.  We'll have fun.
Probably time to get to work.  More later,
The Old Curmudgeon

Feb. 7th, no teeth yet!

No problem, no teeth!  They did climb into Kat's bowl tonight and tried to steal all of her cottage cheese!  Rascals that they are!  I doubt that they could eat her kibble yet, but they might give it a try.  Kat is the consummate mother though.  She is feeding them like a champ.  They are fat and healthy.  Toddling around and growling for about two days now.  They, or some of them, will lick me now when I pick them up and hold them near my face.  I, of course, am trying to steal a whiff of puppy breath, and of course, I love the licking ones because they provide me with puppy breath nicely.
The smallest girl, smallest of all, Iki, meaning little in Hawaiian, was toddling all around the pen tonight.  I took a bunch of pictures of her and the rest in a pile.  The puppies in the pile were quietly, which is the way they START out, playing with each other, biting with the no teeth mouths, holding their mouths open to each other, etc.  It is amazing to me how they know to do what they do.
I'll give you some photos.  Maybe I can figure out how to label them!
Iki starts her trek.  Brave LITTLE girl.
Mom catches her mid-stride!  Gotta keep those kids clean!
Two of the others play fighting.  Fearsome!  TERRIERS!
Until next time....

Time flies

Well, it looks like I have been busy.  That and the fact that I cannot get my pictures to download onto the computer has me not giving your views of these babies.  (Now we have pictures!)
The babies have started to growl, and tonight they were playing with each other after their mother fed them.  The past few days they have been practicing walking instead of pulling themselves along.  Of course none of that would have been possible if they hadn't opened their eyes last weekend.  Now I can tell that they see me as they cock their heads and look.
They are fat, roly poly little people.  Quite verbal when they lose track of Kat.
(I will continue to try to get the pictures onto the computer.  Crazy thing.  Last night I deleted hundreds from the computer, in case it was too full.  I needed to do that anyway, but discovered that the ones I had been deleting were sitting in the photo trash and there were well over two thousand of those.  Maybe now the computer will take them.  We'll see.  I think I should no longer use an 8 gigabyte card.  That may be overwhelming the capacity of the computer or the reader.  I wish I were more of a technophile.  I could probably figure it out then!)   DONE!!!!  Finally.  It worked!  I have hundreds more pictures to delete, fuzzy ones, etc., but that should help the computer.

PS  This was a red letter week.  I spent the first four days at Legacy Canine taking a chicken clicking course, discrimination.  I taught a chicken to discriminate between four seashells drawn on paper.  Very subtle differences in each shell, one from the other.  I also helped coach another person to teach a chicken to do weave poles.  She did extremely well, she and her chicken.  We had a ton of fun. Terry Ryan, at Legacy Canine, is a great teacher and it is wonderful watching her brain work.
